🌈 COP30: The Earth’s Rainbow

Chronicle on the opening day of COP30 in Belém: the Earth’s rainbow unites peoples, ideas and hopes for the Amazon and the planet.

Backq in April 2018, in the text “Rainbow”, I wrote about a late afternoon when the sun and the rain, instead of drifting apart, met in harmony.

Between light and raindrops, a multicolored arc appeared on the horizon — reminding us that differences can unite, that contrasts can create beauty, and that joined hands can build dreams.

Seven years later, that image reveals itself once more — this time in the streets of Belém, Pará, on the opening day of COP30.

The city vibrates like a living palette of voices and banners. Indigenous peoples, scientists, young activists, artists, and leaders from around the world gather under the same Amazonian sky. The air is humid, the climate is tense, yet the energy is luminous: the world wants to talk.

What we see here is a new rainbow — the rainbow of the Earth.

Sun and rain walk together again: hope and urgency intertwined.

There are tears for the damage already done, but also sparks of future in the eyes of those who plant, sing, and resist.

COP30 begins as this very symbol — a bridge between worlds, colors, and knowledges.

Each voice echoes like a beam of light; together, they weave a promise: that the planet can still be a home of balance and coexistence.

The rainbow of COP30 is not made of mirages, but of actions, commitments, and concrete gestures.

And, as I wrote in 2018, “joined hands build dreams” — dreams that now must blossom into policies, reforestation, and climate justice.

Belém reminds us that the Earth is still speaking — and that we, humans, can still learn its multicolored language.
